On Monday, mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless announced the expansion of its 3G network in New Haven County, Connecticut, in a move aimed at offering it the possibility to meet the increasing demand for voice, Internet, and 3G multimedia services. According to the company, the new enhancements brought to its network offer 3G data coverage along I-91 and Route 22 in New Haven, and for the surrounding areas.

“Verizon Wireless’ 3G network coverage across New England is unparalleled,” said Director of Network System Performance for Verizon Wireless, Richard Enright. “We’ve invested billions of dollars into New England believing that even the most sophisticated cell phone is only as good as the network it runs on. Our continued aggressive network investments provide customers with a 3G network advantage at home and on vacation.”

The expansion of 3G coverage in New Haven will enable Verizon Wireless customers to enjoy better services on their computer or smartphone: - Browse the web faster with quicker page loading times - Quickly download and play music - Watch streaming video - Send emails with attachments - Download and play 3D games - Video conference with contacts - Rapidly share files

According to the wireless carrier, the new network expansion is part of its investment effort in the area and around the country. Verizon Wireless has invested more than $2.5 billion into enhancements for its New England network during the past nine years, and even more than $105 million in the first half of 2009 alone.

Verizon also underlined the fact that it had made investments of more than $50 billion for the expansion of its wireless voice and data coverage all around the country. Its users can enjoy a series of great services, including Mobile Broadband and V CAST. When it comes to the Verizon 3G high-speed wireless broadband network, users are able to experience average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (with peaks of 1.4 megabits per second) and average upload speeds of 500-800 kbps.
