Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has made available for download a new software flavor for the owners of DROID Incredible 2 devices on its airwaves.

The new software is being delivered to smartphones as version 5.10.605.9 and brings along a variety of improvements, fixes and enhancements.

The new firmware update brings along radio version 20.32W.30.0813U_1.09.01.1111 for the DROID Incredible 2 by HTC, the wireless carrier notes.

The release notes for the new software show that Verizon and HTC have focused on resolving a series of security issues that the mobile phone pushed to shelves with.

Those Verizon customers who own one of these devices should strongly consider downloading and installing it as soon as possible.

Here’s what the changelog for the update shows:

Security Features

- Includes Google BT/DigiNoTar security patch. - Includes Google security patch for upgrading libpng to 1.2.46. - Includes Wi-Fi password security patch.

Device Features

- Support local video playback when in Airplane Mode. - 5 bar Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) support. - Improvements to Clock and Alarm features. - The “Disable While Roaming” selection will work accurately when roaming in Canada. - Update Sync & Connect configuration to enable Push email sync during off-peak hours.

As you can see, the update brings along appealing enhancements, although it does not upgrade the platform on this device to a newer version.

The new software weighs in at 29.35MB. To check on its availability, users should head over to Settings>System updates>Check new.

Before proceeding with the update, users should consider backing up all data on the mobile phone, so as to make sure that they won’t lose important files, provided that something goes wrong during the installation.

All of the necessary details on the new update can be found on Verizon’s dedicated support page for the smartphone. Instructions on how to perform the update are available there as well.
