Even though Samsung has stated that it is more than content with Galaxy Tab sales overall, the device is still way behind its main competitor, the iPad. The main reason behind this is the tablet’s high price, which doesn't offer the same value for money as other devices in its range.

Numerous polls have pointed out the fact that Galaxy Tab is definitely overpriced at $600 without a subscription, but few carriers have dropped the prices to make the tablet more appealing to Android fans who do not wish to be tied up with a plan.

However, this is about to change, as according to rumors Verizon plans to cut $100 from the tablet's total price in the following days.

Even though the rumors are unconfirmed, it seems they are originating from two Verizon stores, which are preparing to offer the Galaxy Tab for only $499.99.

In addition to the more attractive price, Verizon customers who purchase the Galaxy Tab receive a bonus of $60 worth of free movie rentals through Samsung Media Hub or Blockbuster Mobile.

And to sweeten the deal even more, Verizon is planning to refund $100 to each customer who bought the Galaxy Tab within the last 14 days for $599 and can provide a receipt as proof.

It is unclear when the new offer is live or if it is available only as a special in-store promotion, as the online price is still $599.

Samsung Galaxy Tab is powered by an ARM Cortex A8 1 GHz processor (PowerVR SGX540 graphics) and features full HD video playback capabilities (up to 7 hours), as well as support for Adobe Flash 10.1.

The Android tablet comes with a 7-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 600 x 1024 pixels resolution.

It sports a 3-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, but also a 1.3-megapixel secondary front-facing camera for video-calls.

Other features of the device include: HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP, GPS with A-GPS support, proprietary USB 2.0, 512 MB RAM, 16GB internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).
