Mobile phone users in the United States interested in the purchase of the latest Google phone out there should know that the handset is now available at Verizon Wireless for only $50 with the signing of a two-year contract agreement.

Dubbed Galaxy Nexus, the phone has seen other price cuts before as well, yet none of them was so steep.

The $49.99 cost of the device listed at the moment on the carrier’s website is the result of the addition of a $50 promo discount on top of the $50 online discount the device already featured.

Providing users with support for Verizon’s 4G LTE network, Galaxy Nexus is the only such smartphone in the carrier’s offering to run under Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and the company is making sure users do know that.

However, this is an almost one-year old handset, and it was expected for Verizon to offer it at reduced costs while new, more powerful devices are lining up to be launched.

For instance, there’s the Galaxy Note II smartphone that Samsung unveiled only a few months ago, and which will land on shelves in the US with Jelly Bean, LTE and a quad-core application processor packed inside.

Among these, we might also see new Google phones, just as rumored quite a few times before, and Verizon could be one of the first wireless carriers to add them to their offerings.

However, nothing has been officially confirmed on these new Nexus handsets for the time being, and we’ll take the rumor with a grain of salt.

The one thing that remains certain, however, is that Verizon’s customers can now head over to the carrier’s website to purchase a Galaxy Nexus phone and pay only $50 for it.

They will enjoy a 4.65" HD Super AMOLED Contoured Display, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor inside it, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, and a 5MP camera on the back, with support for full HD video recording.
