Wireless carrier Verizon has started rolling out a new service to the owners of Android-based devices on its network, providing them with access to storage space in the cloud.

Dubbed Verizon Cloud, the service offers up to 125 GB of storage to users, though only 500MB of them are offered for free.

The service has been announced only for Android at the moment, with iOS devices set to benefit from it shortly, and with additional operating systems expected to receive support later this year.

“To help protect and save content, Verizon Wireless will begin rolling out Verizon Cloud for smartphones and tablets in the coming weeks. The secure storage app gives customers a place to back up and access their information,” Verizon Notes.

“Additionally, as customers use multiple devices, sometimes running on different operating systems, Verizon Cloud will allow for the transferring of some content between Android and iOS devices, making it accessible across smartphones, tablets and computers.”

A Verizon Cloud application has also been released for Android devices, and can be found on this page in the Google Play Store.

According to the wireless carrier, the service will provide users with the possibility to keep their files organized and safe at all times.

“Whether customers are looking to save text messages, call logs, contacts, music, multimedia or other files, Verizon Cloud allows for up to 125 GB of storage,” the company notes.

Furthermore, the service is easy to set up and install on smartphones, which should make it even more appealing to users.

“Verizon Cloud apps are easy to set up on all the latest digital devices. Just install the app, choose what you want to back up, and let the upload begin. You can even put your Verizon Cloud backups on autopilot to keep all of your cloud-connected devices in sync,” Verizon notes.

Users interested in learning more on what the new service has to offer to them should head over to this page on the carrier’s website.
