Several Casio devices from its Android roadmap for this year have already leaked online, showing that the company plans to increase its presence on the smartphone market.

Although the company’s smartphones are only available via Verizon Wireless, it won’t come as a surprise if other US-based operators start offering Casio handsets later this year.

Anyway, one of the latest Casio smartphones, which is now available for purchase at Verizon Wireless, the G’Zone Commando has just received an important update.

According to the official change log, the latest update adds Push-to-Talk capabilities to the Casio G’Zone Commando at no additional monthly charge.

The new software update C771M100 is rolling out OTA (over the air) in stages, so G’Zone Commando owners who have yet to be notified on the update can search for it manually.

Aside from Push-to-Talk capabilities, the following new features and improvements have been included:

Device Features

- Google Mobile Services has been updated to Gingerbread R8;

- Improvements in security with the latest Google Security Patch;

- Alert message has been added for zoom functionality when picture quality reaches the maximum (5.0 MP);

- A new, enhanced Verizon Video Application will replace the current V CAST Video app.

Email, Messaging & Web

- Successfully delete emails without delay;

- Text messaging and multimedia messaging signatures have been added;

- Correctly enter your PIN/Password in Lotus Traveler without error.

Call Features

- Keep the screen locked after a call is ended via a Bluetooth headset in order to avoid unexpected dialing in the pocket;

- LED flash for missed call or text has been added back.

To enable Push-to-Talk after the update, simply log into the My Verizon account and add the required code. Then, simply open the Push-to-Talk app from within the Apps tab on the smartphone and enable this feature by clicking “OK.”

It is also worth mentioning that the side key on the Casio G’Zone Commando will automatically change to Push-to-Talk ready after the update is successfully installed.
