A new Android-based mobile phone headed for wireless carrier Verizon Wireless has just emerged into the wild, the HTC Lexikon, following some leaked specifications on it, unveiled to the world

sometime last month.

Just as other Android-based smartphones at Verizon, the new device should pack some very appealing specifications, proving it worthy of lining up with DROID handsets over at Big Red, though is still uncertain whether it would be added to the same family.

A recently leaked ROM upgrade (via 911sniper) reportedly confirmed both the fact that this device would be headed for the market on Verizon Wireless' airwaves, in addition to showing us what the device in itself might be looking like when available.

Until specific info on when would Verizon plan on delivering this device to its users emerge, we should have a look at the specifications list of this handset.

An 800MHz MSM7630 core in included on the list, along with a 3.8-inch touchscreen display that boasts a WVGA resolution, and a side sliding QWERTY keyboard.

Moreover, the new mobile phone should pack 4GB of onboard storage, while running under the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system.

According to Engadget, the smartphone was said to come to Verizon under the name of Merge, while resembling a lot with none other than the G2 / Desire Z.

The news site also notes that the HTC Lexikon / Merge might be the CDMA version of that handset, since they sport a Qualcomm's MSM7230 processor inside, GSM version of the 7630.

Moreover, it seems that the new device also resembles with the dual-mode GSM / CDMA slider that made it into the wild several weeks ago.

All in all, it seems that the Android-based HTC handset in question (we're still not sure what name it would adopt when launched on the US market at Verizon) might be closer to release than expected, which means that more info on it should become available soon.
