Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless announced on Wednesday that it performed more upgrades to its 3G network around the country. This time around, the regions that benefit from 3G coverage expansion are Ulster County and Franklin County, New York. According to the company, the new enhancements are meant not only to offer extended 3G network coverage to customers in the region, but also increase capacity.

The new network improvements are meant to offer better coverage along Route 9W from the Village of Ulster Park to the Village of West Park, as well as Route 9 in Dutchess County from the Village of Staatsburg to the Village of Hyde Park, and in Old Post Road and County Route 213 in the Village of Rifton, via a new site in Esopus; in the Town of Chateaugay, and along US 11 and New York State Routes 189 and 374, through a new cell site in Chateaugay; as well as in the Town of Burke, and along US 11 and New York State Routes 22, 122 and 374, courtesy of a new cell site in Burke.

“We’ve always believed even the most advanced device is only as good as the network it runs on. We continue to aggressively invest in our Upstate New York network to increase coverage and capacity for our customers, add new services, and maintain our 3G network leadership,” said Gene Fassett, executive director of Network for Verizon Wireless’ Upstate New York Region.

According to the wireless carrier, the new network enhancements are meant to offer better services to users, including wireless data services like picture messaging, text messaging, V CAST, and V CAST Music with Rhapsody. In addition, the improvements will deliver high-speed wireless broadband, which Verizon calls MobileBroadband, and which should provide download speeds of up to 1.4 megabits per second and upload speeds of up to 800 kilobits per second. The operator also noted that it had seen strong demand for its wireless services, and that it would continue to invest in its network to meet further demand.
