Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless announced on Thursday that it was making investments in delivering 3G multimedia and Internet access to residents in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, so as to meet the increasing demand for such services all around the country. According to the company, consumers in the area can now enjoy “3G data coverage along Harvard Street and Beacon Street in the Coolidge Corner section of Brookline,” through new cell sites deployed in the area.

The company also announced that its investments in the New England network rose to around $2.5 billion, and that $105 million had been invested in the area during the first six months of the ongoing year only. Through the enhancements made to the carrier's network in Brookline, Verizon users can enjoy faster web browsing, speedier downloads when it comes to music files or 3D games, video streaming capabilities, video conferencing, the possibility to send emails with attachments, as well as file sharing.

Verizon Wireless’ 3G network coverage across New England is unparalleled,” said the director for Network System Performance for Verizon Wireless, Richard Enright. “We’ve invested billions of dollars into New England believing that even the most sophisticated cell phone is only as good as the network it runs on. Our continued aggressive network investments provide customers with a 3G network advantage at home and on vacation.”

Verizon has invested not only in enhancements to its voice and data wireless coverage around the United States, but also in leveraging its 3G services, including Mobile Broadband and V CAST. According to the company, users in New England can enjoy 3G wireless data connectivity and services like V CAST: Video and Music (enabling them to download and play 3D games, stream video clips on their handsets, or download full songs) or V Cast Music with Rhapsody (unlimited access to DRM-free music on a number of up to three compatible devices; over-the-air downloads and purchase of songs).
