Following Apple’s unveiling of the new iPhone model, mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has announced plans to add the device to its LTE offering starting with September 21st, 2012.

The new device will be put on pre-order starting with September 14th, and will feature a contract price of $199.99 for the 16 GB model, $299.99 for the 32 GB model and $399.99 for the 64 GB model.

Users interested in reserving the device for when it becomes generally available will have to head to Verizon’s website for that, the carrier also announced.

Touted as the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever, the new handset comes with a redesigned body, while packing a 4-inch Retina display, better than that of previous models.

Additionally, it is powered by a new A6 chip, and it is capable of delivering faster performance and better wireless connectivity, along with improved battery life.

It also comes with an 8MP camera on the back, as well as with a front camera for making video calls, and with a new connector, smaller than that of previous models.

iPhone 5 is powered by iOS 6, which comes with over 200 new features, Apple’s own Maps service, Facebook integration, and various new Siri enhancements and languages.

“Customers come to Verizon Wireless for a premier wireless experience, and iPhone 5 combined with our 4G LTE network is an outstanding combination,” said Dan Mead, Verizon Wireless CEO.

“The availability of our 4G LTE network means customers get the reliability they value and the technology they need, regardless of where they roam on our network.”

The new iPhone model will offer 4G LTE data speeds in the widest array of markets in the United States on Verizon’s network, the carrier notes, adding that it will add some more areas to its coverage, with 400 markets expected to enjoy the service by year’s end.

Moreover, Verizon announced that the new iPhone 5 would hit shelves with global connectivity inside, so that users can access mobile networks in 220 countries for voice and over 205 for data.
