HTC Imagio is one of the Windows Mobile-based handsets Verizon Wireless was rumored to plan on releasing to the market before the end of the ongoing year, and now the carrier has officially announced the launch of the device. Starting with October 6, those interested in acquiring a new Windows phone from the company can opt for the HTC Imagio, which will be available for purchase on the carrier's website.

Besides the upcoming Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system, the new handset also comes to the market with a 3.6-inch display, support for the carrier's V CAST Mobile TV service, global roaming capabilities (support for quad-band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 + 2100 HSPA), high-speed connectivity on Verizon's 3G network (CDMA/EV-DO Rev. A 800/1900 MHz), as well as Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) capabilities.

The specification list of the new mobile phone also shows touchscreen capabilities for the large display boasting a 480 x 800 WVGA resolution, a 3.5-mm audio jack, one-touch access to multimedia functionality, virtual QWERTY keyboard, a 1500 mAh battery, HTC's TouchFLO 3D user interface, and a 5.0-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus.

At the same time, the HTC Imagio also comes with support for Verizon Wireless’ V CAST Mobile TV and V CAST Video on Demand services, not to mention the V CAST Music with Rhapsody service, as well as with Microsoft Office Mobile and Microsoft Office Outlook Mobile, a fully customizable home screen and easy access to various social networking sites.

Starting with October 6, the very same day Microsoft announced its Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system would become available on the market, the new HTC Imagio will be put on sale both on Verizon's website and in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores. The price tag for the phone has been set at $199.99 upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement with the carrier and after a $100 mail-in rebate.
