Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has announced recently that it has made new enhancements to its 3G network, and that a new cell site has just been activated in Yukon, southeast of Pittsburgh. According to the company, the new deployment is set to offer improved coverage from Yukon southwest along Interstate 70 to the Youghiougheny River, as well as from Kosor Road southeast along State Route to Pittsburgh Pike.

The wireless operator has also announced that the new enhancement should enable its customers to benefit from better coverage when it comes to using their phone on its airwaves, as well as to send and receive emails and messages, including text, picture and video. Moreover, the new deployment also offers them the possibility to watch high-quality videos, access the Internet to browse on various websites or download music, games and ringtones, and also benefit from great reception in the Yukon area.

“Even the most advanced cell phone is only as good as the network it runs on,” said Roger Tang, president, Ohio/Pennsylvania/West Virginia Region, Verizon Wireless. “Our 3G high-speed wireless broadband network is the largest and most reliable in the United States, and field tests are under way that will enable us to become the first wireless company to offer commercial LTE (Long Term Evolution)-based 4G service in the nation, starting in 2010.”

The new network enhancement, Verizon Wireless states, is a part of its plan to deliver improved capacity to various areas in the country, as well as to expand the coverage of its network, while also providing users with better services when it comes to both wireless voice and data. The company is working on improving its network all around the country, and says that it has invested almost $330 million in enhancements brought to its network in Pennsylvania. According to Verizon, it has invested more than $50 billion in increasing the coverage and capacity of its airwaves since it first deployed the network.
