Quite some time has passed since network-attached storage (NAS) devices became the solution for networks that required increased storage capabilities. As the need for such storage solutions grows, so does the demand for each new product to offer end-users an increased reliability, usability and a high maximum storage capacity. Most recently, Verbatim Europe has introduced two NAS storage devices for the European market.

The two Gigabit NAS devices from Verbatim are different from each other through their maximum storage capacity. The company has launched a model with 500GB and one with a maximum capacity of 1TB. They are built with dual USB 2.0 and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity and are capable of streaming media content to TV sets, share files with consoles and act as iTunes and FTP servers.

This functionality, naturally, comes as an addition to the mandatory file storing and backup capabilities of the NAS devices, as well as the ability to make said files available on the network. Not only that, but these two solutions also boast a BitTorrent client for the secure sharing and transferring of large data files via peer-to-peer connections.

"Our aim is to offer professional and private users a drive that they can operate like a file server. Owners of the drive will benefit from being able to centrally manage their digital data and do smart things like viewing the content on a TV via a media player or connecting one printer to the USB port which can be utilised by many users," Kai Miroschnik, business development manager HDD Verbatim EUMEA, says.

The two models, the 500GB and 1TB versions, are aimed at small office networks and home environments. They are already available in Europe, where online retailers are listing them for the prices of 139 Euro (for the 500GB product) and 159 Euro (for the one with 1TB of storage).
