Verbatim has reportedly begun sending out shipments of its latest solid state drives designed with support for the SATA III interface, otherwise known as SATA 6.0 Gbps.

The drives now selling in Europe have capacities of 120 GB and 240 GB and, to take advantage of the bandwidth provided by SATA III, rely on SandForce controllers.

Specifically, each of the units has a SandForce SD-2281 controller chip, which can read and write data to and from the MLC (multi-level cell) NAND Flash memory chips at speeds of 550 MB/s and 510 MB/s, respectively.

Furthermore, both 2.5-inch units have TRIM support (preserves performance over time by clearing up deleted sectors) and two-year warranties.

The 120 GB drive costs 199 Euro ($260), while the 240 GB unit has a price of 399 Euro ($523).
