The famous city has been faithfully recreated

Google is on a quest to recreating the world inside Google Earth. It’s not satisfied with just the oceans and mountains, it wants everything to be in 3D. For a while now, cities have gotten some of the attention as well and Google, with the help of the community, is recreating the cities of the world in three dimensions. Once a city is complete enough, Google showcases it to spur people to visit it, at least on their computers. The latest to ‘graduate’ is the beautiful and famous city of Venice, Italy.

“Venice, Italy in 3D is now live on Google Earth. You can take a virtual stroll starting at the train station (Venezia Santa Lucia) and traverse Ponte Scalzi to get to Campo Santa Margherita,” Simone Nicolo, from the Google SketchUp Team, wrote.

“You can check out the recently completed ‘fourth bridge’ (Ponte della Costituzione) on the Grand Canal, without ever having to be in Venice. Or, you could watch the city from the vantage point of a bird perched atop St Mark's Campanile (Campanile di San Marco), walk around Palazzo Grassi or explore the Rialto Bridge (Ponte di Rialto).”

One of the most popular tourist spots in the world, the sunken city is now available in Google in all its glory. You can navigate the canals or visit the tourist hotspots. Or maybe find some back alley you’d never go through on foot. Whether you want to relive a great vacation or always wanted to visit it but never have, now you can go to Venice any time you want from your desktop and, more importantly, for free.
