14 DAY TRIAL // Vendetta Online is a space MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) developed and published by Guild Software Inc. A new version of the game has just been released and it packs quite a few improvements.
There are not too many space MMOs on the Linux platform and there are even fewer that offer this kind of content. Vendetta Online has been around for a long time, well before the release of Steam for Linux.
Its makers were providing Linux support in a period when very few studios were even looking in the general direction of the platform.
The Vendetta Online devs have been making some incremental changes to the game. Taken one by one, none of the previous versions really stood out, but it's a different matter if we look at it as a whole.
Lots of modifications have been made and most of them for the better. The graphics side has been improving constantly and it's almost close to rival some of the more important titles out there.
It’s true that they still have a long way to go until we'll see something like Eve Online, but the studio is working very hard.
Vendetta Online is a surprise in the making
The fact that the game gets small fixes in numerous doses means that it will get progressively better, but without any major leap. It will come a day when Vendetta Online will suddenly be one of the top choices for space MMOs, and by the looks of it, things are heading in the right direction.
"In other news, we're continuing to develop and optimize the next-generation graphics engine. We managed to get another 25% performance boost out of a new version of the dynamic lighting shader; we have not yet released this shader update, as we're continuing to work on enhancing frame rates. Gameplay changes are also coming up, but the rendering engine work needs to be 'done' all at once, so we're pushing to get that out of the way," reads the official announcement.
The devs also say that they tweaked the mine explosions, the visual effects for the weapons have been improved, the single-player tutorial should be much clearer now, and a few smaller fixes have been implemented as well.
