It's not a major update, but users should upgrade

Vendetta Online is an MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) developed and published by Guild Software Inc. for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X. The developers have released a major update for it and users should find some very interesting changes and new features.

There aren't too many MMOs for Linux, and the ones set in space are even fewer. It's good to see that Vendetta Online is really taking off and that Linux continues to be supported. Users will notice that there are virtually no significant differences between the Linux version and the others, and this is very good news for people who are also looking for a title that is on par with the other platforms.

Truth be told, this latest iteration of Vendetta Online has a very important part dedicated to the Windows version, which has just got an experimental DirectX 11 patch. It should impact what the players are seeing to some degree, but it's also worth noting that it also comes with a higher hardware cost.

Some of the latest changes for Vendetta Online are quite interesting

Besides the DirectX update for the system, a number of other problems have been fixed and it's definitely a good idea to upgrade the client as soon as possible.

"We have a lot of work going on behind the scenes right now, this is an interim release until some of the other development is ready. We're trying very hard to get to a point on mobile where we can wrap some of this platform-specific development and get back to overall gameplay work."

"Among other things, you can expect near-term changes to station defenses, strike forces and certain early missions. We'll also do our best to drop in some high-level content as well. New assets are still in development (capship stations), etc," note the devs.

The developers have also said that that the weapon system has been improved and that it should no longer register false hits, the Linux OpenGL drivers have been updated and users should be able to make use of off-screen rendering (increasing the performance), and the Android edition of Vendetta Online is now installing correctly.

You can download the Vendetta Online client from Softpedia, but you will have to download the rest of the packages yourself. Also, you need to keep in mind that this is an online-only game and it needs a constant Internet connection in order to work.
