Velocity Micro, a company well renowned for its high-quality silent-running custom built desktops, has just announced the introduction of the ProMagix VSC455 V8 workstation that is designed to offer noise-free operation as well as an impressive computing power.

The ProMagix machine is built around a dual-socket LGA 1366 motherboard and Intel's Xeon 5500/5600-series processors which can be seconded by as much as eight Nvidia Tesla or Quadro GPUs for running compute intensive applications.

Velocity Micro has opted to let its users pair the system with up to up to 144GB of system memory installed inside 18 DIMM sockets, while the storage drives will be fitted inside a custom designed hard drive cage to deliver twice the physical storage of previous iterations.

While Velocity Micro doesn't go into too many details when it comes to the specifications of the storage sub-system, the company is quick to point out that the VSC455 V8 is capable of providing a peak performance of 8 Tflops.

Of course that this figure is only true for applications that can take advantage of Nvidia's GPUs, but even when only the Xeon CPUs are in use the workstation should still be able to offer impressive computing power.

"With our HPC solutions, our goal has been to create the most powerful workstations in the industry for the science, engineering, and research communities," said Chip Lowell, Velocity Micro VP of Sales.

"Not only have we done that with the ProMagix VSC V8, but we've come up with the quietest, most efficient solution in the industry," concluded the company's rep.

Right now, no information regarding the starting price of the ProMagix VSC455 V8 was provided by the company, but the workstation is available for ordering as we speak. Users who want to customize the system according to their own wishes can do so by contacting Velocity Micro.
