PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has for some time now been trying to convert people in the United States to veganism or vegetarianism.

Despite its best efforts, it would appear that the country where these two diet plans are now surprisingly popular is Sweden.

Thus, a recent survey carried out by research consulting agency Demoskop has found that, presently, about 10% of the people living in Sweden prefer meatless meals.

To put things into perspective, it must be said that, when compared to the number of vegetarians and vegans documented in this country about 5 years ago, this represents an increase of 4%.

According to Ecorazzi, Sweden has high chances to be home to even more people who do not eat meat and/or dairy in the years to come.

This is because the Demoskop survey has also found that 37% of the meat-eaters interviewed as part of this investigation are thinking about switching to plant-based meals.

All in all, specialists working with said research consulting agency interviewed a total of 1,000 people. Of these individuals, the youngest were 15 years old.

Interestingly enough, it would appear that vegetarianism and veganism are most popular among people between the ages of 15 and 34.

Besides, these two diets appear to be more popular in the cities of Stockholm and Skane than they are in the rest of the country.
