The time of the communication with the help of homing pigeons is long gone, and even the Vatican has to adopt modern technologies to deal with its communication requirements.

And so, Vatican announces that their networks will be run by Sun Microsystems and the JES (Java Enterprise
System) solution.

And since Vatican requires significant processing capacity, Sun used Ultrasparc servers running the Solaris operating system and the Messaging and Directory Servers solutions. In this way, Vatican has now a complete and complex, state of the art infrastructure which took little time to achieve.

"E-mail is one of the most important IT services we provide at the Holy See," said Sister Judith Zoebelein of the Vatican's Internet office in a statement. "It enables our internal communication, facilitating correspondence between our consulates, and aiding our worldwide evangelization efforts," she added.
