The hackers have several reasons for attacking the Catholic Church

The official website of the Vatican (vatican.va) has been taken offline for several hours by Anonymous hackers who wanted to protest against the actions of the Roman Catholic Church.

“Anonymous has now decided to lay siege to your site in response to the doctrines, liturgies and the absurd and anachronistic concepts that your for-profit organization (Roman Apostolic Church) propagates and spreads worldwide,” reads a translation of the hackers’ message.

Church officials are accused by the hacktivists of aiding “Nazi war criminals” in obtaining refuge to hide from law enforcement agencies. The hackers also resurface the child abuse accusations that are brought by many against the religious institution.

“This is NOT intended to attack the true Christian religion and the faithful around the world, but the corrupt Roman Apostolic Church and all its emanations,” the hackers conclude.

This is not the first time when the Vatican is hit, Imperva experts even drawing up the Anatomy of an Anonymous attack based on an attack that targeted the institution last year.
