Some officials were also confused by the headline

Stories about Batman are not what you’d expect to see on official websites and Twitter accounts operated by the Vatican. That’s why when people saw a headline that read “Holy Switcheroo! Batman has grown bitter, more vengeful with the years,” they assumed it was the work of hackers.

The article was published on the website of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications (pccs.va) on March 20. In addition, a link to it was posted on the Vatican’s @PCCS_VA Twitter account.

However, Vatican representatives say the website and the Twitter account haven’t been hacked. Instead, the story was copied by a non-native English speaker from Catholic News Service and re-published on pccs.va, TechEye reports.

Vatican officials have explained that even some of them were thrown off by the title, so they’re not surprised that many might have believed that hackers had published the article.

The explanation for the Twitter post is simple. All articles published on the site are automatically tweeted.

The Batman story – which is relevant, but not so church oriented as the usual articles – has not been removed from the site, but it has been placed lower.
