Better late than never

The people at Infinity Ward are busy these days with their Variety Map Pack release for the Xbox 360 game console, but they also have the time to announce how things will progress on the map front for the PlayStation 3 and for the PC owners.

There were some initial issues with the map pack, mainly the fact that it spewed out an "invalid Code" message when the installation process started. Apparently, there was a glitch with the download process that's now been taken care of, so if you get any errors just re-download and you'll be fine, as Robert Bowling says. He is community manager for Infinity Ward, so he should know.

As the Variety Map Pack begins to get play time on the Xbox, Infinity Ward is looking to the PS3 and what it can do with it as a gaming platform. The question is not whether they are getting the new maps but rather when. An announcement is to be expected sometime this week.

Robert Bowling stated: "Luckily though it's getting to that time for the PS3 to be the focus for a while with the launch of the Game of the Year Edition on PS3, the Variety Map Pack hitting PSN, and setting up some launch weekend events for you guys when the maps hit."

He also confirmed that at some point the map pack will make its way to the PC, even if the PS3 is the current priority. Details will be given once the process of creating the pack is finished.

There could be a slight delay as the Community Mapping Contest for the PC that Infinity Ward launched just chose its winners. It might be that the developers are looking at the fan-created maps for Call of Duty 4 and thinking whether they might also be bundled with the Variety Map Pack.
