Actress says pressure on women is huge in Hollywood

She’s considered one of the cutest presences on the scene right now, stylish, gorgeous and, above all, young. She also happens to be dating the original heartthrob, Zac Efron, her co-star from “High School Musical” but, according to Vanessa Hudgens, she’s already feeling the tick-tocking of the clock. There is a lot of pressure on women in Hollywood to look young, she says in an interview cited by AceShowbiz.

Consequently, though she’s only 21, she’s already using creams and lotions meant to prevent the appearance of wrinkles, she reveals. Though her words would undoubtedly get a few disapproving nods from beauticians, since using this type of products on a skin that does not need them is equivalent to standing in the sun unprotected, they say, Vanessa is determined to do her best to always look this good. Showbiz is very cruel to women and, as the saying goes, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do to stay in the game.

“I’m already starting to use anti-ageing. You might as well start sooner than later because products are really amazing these days. You might as well start now, put a little lotion on rather than having to get wrinkles. I think it’s smart to start soon, really. It’s a good beauty tip,” the young actress reveals. By using these products, she is making sure she prevents (or, better yet, stalls) the appearance of wrinkles, thus ensuring that she’s not pushed aside by the grinding wheels of the entertainment industry – at least, not on account of her wrinkles.

It’s an unfair fight, but it must be fought with determination, Vanessa believes. “I think women get the pressure more because when men age, it’s [hot]. They get to have their gray hair. When women age, it’s perceived in Hollywood that they need a lift and they need a tuck, and yadda yadda. So I think the pressure is on women but, at the same time, it depends on who you are,” the actress further explains, as per the same e-zine.

In saying these things, Vanessa is certainly not alone in claiming that Hollywood enforces a set of rigid double standards for men and women – though she is officially the youngest to ever do so. In April last year, for instance, Brooke Shields, former child star, said that, as women grow old in Hollywood, the range of roles available to them becomes narrower and narrower, until they’re eventually pushed aside.
