It must be the week of 'Oh, I almost did I don't know what more than a decade ago' shock, since all the major and minor stars are coming out and making startling revelations about
things that happened so many years ago that almost nobody gives a rat's ass about them anymore.
Well, I did say 'almost', didn't I? Because, you see, such things are still interesting, not because of the valuable and priceless information they provide but because they show us just how hung up on the past some can be and, in the end, ridiculous. Case point: Jean Claude Van Damme.
The man who was once named the most influential action movie star is now reduced to the status of D-list celebrity, an actor with whom studios get in contact only if they want to rely on his fading star power. If we were to be insultingly honest, we would say that his career ended way back in the days of yore and that, seeing he is no longer in the excellent shape he was in, he definitely has no chances of ever picking up again.
But we're not like that (insultingly honest, that is), so we'll just stick to the facts. In 1994, Mr. Van Damme met up with Australian singer Kylie Minogue and shot that which soon became the laughing stock of the entire Hollywood, a dreadful piece of work called 'Street Fighter'. Now, more than a decade later, the actor says that he had a brief romance with Kylie while shooting for the movie. Oh, the shock!!!
The good part of this story is that Van Damme has (finally!) become aware that he shouldn't have made 'Street Fighter' in the first place. But he got to meet Kylie so he still got something nice out of the whole debacle. '"Street Fighter" was corny to me. But there were nice things. I got to see the land of Australia and had a mini-affair with Kylie Minogue. If you ever see her, say hello from me.', the actor told Britain's 'Empire' magazine.
In the same interview, Van Damme still insists that he's not a fighter but a lover, as if anyone would still care enough about that. 'My last fight was more than 20 years ago. I'm not a fighter, I'm a lover. If somebody's going to speak bad about me, I will walk away. But if a guy like Steven Seagal slaps me once, I will slap him twice as hard. Life is full of violence.', he explained.
