Coming to confirm once more that vampires are the new black in Hollywood right now (and the entertainment industry in general), new figures reveal the “vampire industry” has generated so far $7 billion in profits.

Thanks to the craze that was set off (once more) with the 2008 “Twilight,” vampires and all undead creatures are now hip again. Not only are they hip, but they’re also extremely profitable, E! Online says.

Following the release of films like the “Twilight” series, shows like “True Blood” and “The Vampire Diaries,” and countless books, producers, authors and staff have amounted a $7 billion fortune.

“It’s no surprise that the fanged ‘cold ones’ have taken over Hollywood, and in some cases, people’s lives. But don’t count on their reign ending anytime soon,” E! writes.

“According to the Hollywood Reporter, calculations show that this vampire craze, which started back in 2008 with the release of Twilight, has generated an insane amount of money! Seven billion dollars (!) in less than two years!” the same media outlet goes on to say.

In this context, it wouldn’t really be a major stretch to say that the craze is not going to die down anytime soon, which should come as good news for fans of the genre. With detractors – that’s an entirely different story, though.

It’s not just in television and cinema that vampires are taking over, E! explains. Books on the most popular releases have also been written – while new ones also keep on hitting book shelves with regularity.

“In addition to Stephenie Meyer’s saga are books by a ton of other authors writing about sucking blood all night. TV shows like True Blood and Vampire Diaries also put the undead on the map and brought in some dough,” E! says.

Surprisingly, even vampire-related projects (such as parodies) are a hit with audiences, which speaks volumes for just how thirsty for vampires (if one may be permitted the pun) fans are.

“Even the Twilight spoof Vampires Suck racked in a whopping $20 million in the box office,” E! says of the latest silver screen release to shoot at the top of the box office.
