Valve has released its Linux-based SteamOS, but it’s not for the average user and it comes with a series of rather restrictive system requirements.

The new SteamOS is strange beast, at least this Beta version. It comes with a very specific set of system requirements, which need to be respected in order to get a flawless installation.

SteamOS hardware requirements:

• Processor: Intel or AMD 64-bit capable processor • Memory: 4GB or more RAM • Hard Drive: 500GB or larger disk • Video Card: NVIDIA graphics card • (AMD and Intel graphics support coming soon!) • Additional: UEFI boot support • USB port for installation

The most interesting of these requirement has to be the UEFI boot support. Users will need a computer or laptop which features UEFI boot in order to make it work.

NVIDIA is also a requirement for SteamOS and only users with these types of graphics cards will be able to run the new operating system.
