Microsoft's head of Xbox, Don Mattrick, has revealed that he doesn't see Valve's upcoming Steam Box mini PC as a competitor to the company's Xbox brand.

Valve has gotten the attention of many people from all around the world with its Steam Box project, which aims at delivering high performance mini PCs that gamers can install in their living rooms, thereby replacing traditional home consoles.

Microsoft, the company behind the current Xbox 360 and the oft-rumored Xbox 720, however, doesn't see Valve as a competitor.

Speaking to The Verge, Xbox boss Don Mattrick noted that Valve was doing some innovative things with the Steam Box but emphasized that it couldn't compete with the likes of Microsoft's current rivals, like Sony or Nintendo.

As of yet, the Steam Box is far from completion, as Valve noted that it wouldn't release the final version of the mini PC this year.
