Valve has officially dismissed yesterday's rumor that it's going to debut Half-Life 3 at this week's Gamescom 2012 expo, confirming that it won't be showing any games at this year's convention.

Half-Life 3, along other surprise sequels like Dragon Age 3, was mentioned by an official Gamescom document that detailed the announcements that will be made during the expo.

Sadly, it seems that such a thing won't be happening, as Valve confirmed to CVG that, "We are not showing any games in Cologne this year."

Valve will be present at the large German expo but only for members of the press and the industry, as it won't have a public booth on the actual show floor.

Seeing as how the company is getting ready to debut its two big projects, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2 in the near future, it's possible that work on a Half-Life 3 or at least Half-Life 2: Episode 3 is underway.
