Valve is set to reveal its own set up virtual reality hardware during the Developer Days event that will take place in January 2014 behind closed doors and it will explain how the Steam digital distribution service will be enhanced to support it.

The talk where the new devices will first be shown to other developer is called “What VR Could, Should, and Almost Certainly Will Be within Two Years” and the main speaker is Mike Abrash, who is one of the leading innovators at the company.

The official description for the event states, “We've figured out what affordable Virtual Reality (VR) hardware will be capable of within a couple of years, and assembled a prototype which demonstrates that such VR hardware is capable of stunning experiences.”

The developers who sign up to take part will be able to talk about the capabilities of the new technology and the way virtual reality googles will be able to enhance traditional experiences in a variety of genres.

The Developer Day in January 2014 will also feature another discussion called “Virtual Reality and Steam.”

It’s unclear which Valve-made games would benefit from the addition of the tech.

The company has previously worked on a virtual reality project that was abandoned because it failed to meet the company’s very strict requirements.

We already know that in 2014 we will see the first beta testing phase for the third-party-created Steam boxes, the OS based on the service and the new haptic feedback controller.

Gamers who are interested in virtual reality solutions can already get access to them via the Oculus Rift, a device that works on the PC and is supported by a variety of games offered on Steam.

Sony is also thought to be working on its own solution, which will be offered exclusively on the PlayStation 4 and might be also shown during 2014.
