Valve announces that it plans to eliminate the touchscreen that has been part of the Steam haptic controller in the near future, before the new device is made available to the general public.

The company says that the screen does not have any clear purpose and that gamers are better served by looking at the television in front of them to see what is happening.

A "ghosting" mode will be added to compensate for the fact that the screen is no longer part of the controller.

The buttons are also set to be moved into a diamond shape, which is required in order to offer backwards compatibility for older titles, according to Pocket Lint.

The announcements were made during the Steam Dev Days, where Valve shared its long-term plans with a number of its partners.

The company has also said that it wants to use the SteamOS to launch movies, television shows and music.
