Randy Pitchford, the leader of developer Gearbox, says that he wants Valve to focus on creating Half-Life 3 and other ground breaking video games rather than shifting its resources to deliver new hardware.

The creator of titles like Borderlands tells GamesIndustry.biz that, "I want to see Half-Life 3 or other exciting and big and original offerings from these guys who are amongst the best in the world at crafting interactive entertainment and are resourced better than anyone."

Pitchford also says that he expects that, at some point, the creative side of Valve will be separated from the section of the company that's supporting and evolving the Steam digital distribution service.

He admits that despite his position at Gearbox, he is reacting like a simple fan who wants to see new game experiences linked to the Half-Life universe.

Valve has recently announced a SteamOS and a dedicated controller.
