It’s been quite a debate since Polish developer Destructive Creations announced its controversial game suggestively called HATRED, whether the title should be released or not.

HATRED is an isometric action game that puts players in the role of a suicidal mass murderer who indiscriminately and mercilessly kills everyone in his path: children, women, men, police officers.

The game was initially set for release on January 28 on both PC and Mac platforms, and developers promised a launch on Steam after going through Valve’s Greenlight program.

It’s been more than a month since the controversial title has been announced and the folks over at Destructive Creations finally put their game on Steam Greenlight yesterday.

Unsurprisingly, the game was met with lots of positive feedback from Steam users who upvoted the HATRED to the point that it was just a matter of time until Valve was forced to allow the title to benefit from its digital distribution services.

According to developers, in just a couple of hours since the game was listed on Steam Greenlight, it gathered more than 13,000 up votes and ended up on a #7 on top 100 list, which is quite impressive to say the least.

The game would have pushed much higher on top 100 list if Valve hadn’t decided that HATRED should not be published on Steam.

The game received tremendous positive feedback on Steam Greenlight

Apparently, Destructive Creations received a short message from Valve a few hours after their game appeared on Steam Greenlight, which informed them that HATRED would be removed:

“We wanted you guys to know that based on what we see on Greenlight we would not publish Hatred on Steam. As such we’ll be taking it down.”

No other explanations have been offered for this brutal action, but devs have published a screenshot taken from the game’s Workshop section where there’s a message that’s supposed to shed some light on Valve’s decision: “this item has been banned because it violates the Steam Terms of Service.”

The good news is Destructive Creations confirmed they still planned to release HATER in Q2 2015, especially that their game received such a huge community support. It remains to be seen how successfully HATRED will be now that Valve has decided not to make it available through Steam.

Until then, developers promised to try and make HATRED available for pre-order as soon as possible, as many of their fans asked for it.
