The list becomes bigger and bigger each month

The last days of 2014 were also the last that Steam subscribers could purchase two games in the Aliens franchise: Aliens: Colonial Marines and Aliens vs Predator (2010).

Both games have been removed by Valve as per SEGA’s request, but they can still be purchased through other digital stores which also provide Steam keys.

Many PC gamers don’t know that these two games are not among the few that have been removed by Valve from Steam and they definitely won’t be the last.

Since 2007, the year Valve removed the first game from Steam (Brian Lara International Cricket), almost 300 titles have been made unavailable for purchase. Some of the games that were removed returned to Steam after a while, but there aren’t too many in this case.

Steam user donham is regularly updating a list with games that have been removed or about to be made unavailable for purchase on Steam. The list contains almost 300 titles, but there might be more that we’re still unaware of.

Some of the removed games have returned at a later date

When Valve removes a game from Steam, there’s usually no announcement unless it’s a very important title. Those who own one or more of these games that aren’t available on Steam anymore can continue to download and play these games through Valve’s digital client.

Obviously, you can’t do that if the games are completely removed from players’ libraries, but most of these titles are still playable in Steam.

The list available on Steam forums is said to include “all the region specific Steam store,” so if you by any chance wanted to pick one of these titles on Valve’s digital distribution store, then you should look elsewhere.

In most cases, the list also displays the date when a game has been removed from Steam or when it became available for purchase once again. For the full list of titles head over to the original thread.
