Gabe Newell, the leader of the Valve studio, says that his company is not delaying any games in order to wait for virtual reality technology to become more mature and mainstream and that his philosophy does not support that kind of interdependent development.

During an Ask Me Anything session posted on Reddit, the company head says that at the moment he is working to make sure that the Source 2 engine integrates complex virtual reality capabilities.

At the same time, he disputes the assertion that one developer made that the Valve headset is better than the one created by Oculus Rift, noting that “We are collaborating with them, and want their hardware to be great.”

Valve has already said that it has no plans to launch its own commercial virtual reality solution but that it has plans to offer extensive support for the Crystal Cove consumer version of the Oculus Rift.

The company is currently focused on the creation of Steam machines, the SteamOS, and the haptic controller, all of which should be out before the end of the year.

At the same time, it is adding more features to the Steam digital distribution system, including the recent tag mechanics and better ways for developers to deliver content quickly to players.
