SteamOS, a Debian-based distribution developed by Valve to be used in its hybrid PC / console, has received another important update.

The previous update for SteamOS brought the much needed support for AMD graphic cards, and now the developers have finally fixed the Pulseaudio problem that has been causing so much grief.

According to the changelog, Pulseaudio no longer fails to start on machines without NVIDIA HDMI audio support, and the Pulseaudio config has been tweaked to use either Intel or NVIDIA HDMI audio by default, when it’s available.

The fix is very important and has been implemented in both branches of SteamOS. This means that right now, both releases have the same exact features and changes.

Check the official announcement for more details about this release. You can download SteamOS right now from Softpedia. Keep in mind that, even if this is a stable release, some bugs might still be present.

If you used to employ the Beta version, this update will make your system stable again, at least until the next update to the Beta build.
