New hope for fans

As you already know, Valve is in the middle of quite a lot of controversy these days, as it has unveiled at E3 this year that Left 4 Dead, one of the most popular titles of 2008, would receive a sequel in just twelve months.

This led fans to start a boycott group, as they felt betrayed by the company, because the original game was left unsupported in their views. Executives from Valve quickly reacted and revealed that new downloadable content for the first game was being worked upon and, yesterday, that it would arrive before the end of the summer.

Now, the company's Vice President of Marketing, Doug Lombardi, has talked with TVG about the fact that it is looking to provide cross-game play between the first Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2, when it will arrive at the end of this year.

Set to provide players of the first title with the ability to play alongside users that are running Left 4 Dead 2, it will certainly please a lot of fans who complained when the sequel was announced. “That's something that we're trying to work out the details of right now,” Lombardi said about the cross-game play feature. “So nothing specific to say today, but we understand that it's a very valid thing to be working on and looking at.”

In terms of modding and how the community is hard at work creating new content for the first game, thanks to a new update released for it, Lombardi revealed that they would be easily transferable between the two titles. “With the Mod stuff, if you're making stuff for Left 4 Dead it will work in Left 4 Dead 2 with very minor amounts of work to bring it over. So we feel we've made good steps on that side and now we're looking at how we manage that for folks who buy the first game and sequel.”

If you were upset that Left 4 Dead 2 might mean the end of support for the first game, would this possibility of cross-game play make you interested in buying it? Leave us a comment with your opinion.
