Valerie Harper, the ‘70s television icon (of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” fame), is dying. The actress, who is now 73 years old, has revealed she’s suffering from terminal cancer.

She received the diagnosis in January this year and it was confirmed after more tests. Doctors have told her she has no more than 3 months left to live.

Harper breaks the news to her fans in the latest issue of People magazine. A preview for it is now available online.

“A battery of tests revealed she has leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, a rare condition that occurs when cancer cells spread into the fluid-filled membrane surrounding the brain,” People says.

Harper tells the mag she doesn’t “think of dying [but] of being here and now.” She’s determined to live out the rest of her life, as little as it might be, “with courage and humor.”

More details will be made available when People is out on newsstands later this week.
