Valerie Bertinelli says Christina Aguilera is the Queen of Mean, even to her fans

A few years ago, there was a rumor that actress Valerie Bertinelli and pop star Christina Aguilera were “feuding” after coming face to face backstage at a Van Halen concert. Tabloid media loves nothing better than a good feuding story, so things were taken to extremes in a very short while.

There was never any “feud” to speak of, Bertinelli explains on an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. But that’s not to say that there was no incident between her and Aguilera, of whom Bertinelli clearly doesn’t have a very good opinion.

That segment of the chat is available in the video below. Unfortunately, it’s restricted to users not accessing it from the US.

No feud, but Aguilera is definitely the Queen of Mean

Famous female singers, especially those who have already proven they’re not just a flash in the pan and have been around for years, are always plagued by diva rumors. Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce are all said to be insufferable and demanding, gratuitously mean, and overbearing.

These divas are said to make impossible demands for concerts, tours, and even regular TV appearances, live in the utmost luxury and can’t go number 2 in the bathroom unless the toilet bowl is gilded or made from some other expensive material.

According to Bertinelli, Christina is also very mean to her fans – or she used to be. She recalls that she saw her backstage at the Van Halen concert and that she was a huge fan of her music at the time, so naturally, she wanted to go over and let her know how much she appreciated her.

So she did. “I said, ‘Oh my god, I think you're a beautiful singer’,” the actress recalls. Christina’s response to this was a flick of the hand, a cold shoulder and a “yeah, whatever.”

“She gave me the cold shoulder. And I thought, ‘[B-word], I'm a fan. You can't be nice to me?’,” Bertinelli continues. She’s convinced that Christina is just as mean today as she was back then, at least according to rumors.

Celebrities tend to forget that they owe their fans for everything they have

It’s true that smartphones and paparazzi are making celebrities’ lives impossible and that they feel as if they have no more privacy because of them, but being rude to a fan remains high on the no-no list.

At the end of the day, celebrities, be they actors or musicians, owe everything they have to the fans, because without these people who buy whatever they put out, they would be just regular Joes and Janes busting their backsides to make a living.

Every once in a while, stars forget that. Charlize Theron had a reaction similar to Aguilera’s when she was approached by former teen star Tia Mowry, and she was properly trashed online for it.

Even younger celebrities err this way: Adriana Grande was recently heard muttering that she wished her fans would drop dead and stop pestering her with demands for photos and autographs. Apparently, Aguilera does it too.

Are you surprised to hear that?
