When Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger announced his intentions to run for California governor in 2003, the topic soon became nation and international news, despite the fact that, at the time, most Californians did not even know what his political views were. Arnold’s example seems to have inspired Val Kilmer as well, as he just told The Associated Press that he too was considering running for state governor.

The former “Batman” star grew up in Los Angeles, but he spent the most part of the last two decades in New Mexico. As of late, speaking with people and just really listening to them has got him considering getting more involved in politics, so as to be able to balance his fame as a Hollywood star with his ideas to do some good, as he says.

Although the idea seems to have come to Kilmer just recently, the actor admits that he is giving it serious thought. “I’m just looking for ways to be contributive. And if that ends up being where I can make a substantial contribution, then I’ll run.” Kilmer tells the AP. According to the same source, if he does decide to run, he will do so in 2010, when Democrat Bill Richardson’s second term comes to an end. Nevertheless, until then, there’s more thinking to be done, Kilmer explains.

As for the campaign, the actor says that, while he has not yet given it serious thought, he just knows that it will be no ordinary campaign. Should he decide to go through with this, Kilmer is confident that he will most certainly win the elections as well. “What I do for a living is listen. If I run, I’m going to be the next governor.” he boldly asserts for the AP.

While making a definite decision about running in the elections is still pending, Val Kilmer will continue with his acting career. At the moment, the star has no less than ten projects scheduled to come out in 2009, among which “Fake Identity,” “Streets of Blood” and “Silver Cord.”
