Includes virtual location and tracking protection services

F-Secure announced the release of a VPN product for mobile devices, aimed at securing Internet browsing over an untrusted Wi-Fi connection.

The app, designed for Android and iOS, is called Freedome and it is subscription based, with a monthly fee of $4.99 / €4.49, or a yearly one of $29.99 / €26.99; it can be tested free of charge for a period of seven days.

“Freedome protects all your Internet traffic and lets you use your device online without worrying about any threats that you may encounter,” reads the initial screen of the app, which also shows the different types of protection currently enabled.

Among the features available there is connection anonymization to prevent others from spying on your Internet activities as well as tracking protection, which that restricts advertising services from learning your online behavior.

According to its description, Freedome is also capable of blocking harmful apps and websites and does not have a bandwidth cap.

A special service is included, called virtual location. Its purpose is to allow users to choose the origin of the connection to a specific country.

At the moment there are nine countries to pick from: Finland, Sweden, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Netherlands and Italy.

For a short period of time, until June 30, users can enter the promotional code “david” to can expand the trial period to a total of six months. This is useful especially for those travelling to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup.
