VMware Workstation continues to be one of the leading solutions to create, manage, and work with virtual machines, so updates are playing a key role for lots of end users and business consumers across the world.

A new version was officially launched this morning to add support for some of the latest operating systems on the market, including Windows 8.1 Update, which was rolled out by Microsoft on April 8.

VMware Workstation 10.0.2 Build 1744117 comes with better audio performance and compatibility with certain USB audio and video devices, according to the official release notes, so in case you have been experiencing issues with some of your peripherals connected via USB, make sure you deploy this update and try again.

A very helpful feature for Windows 8.1 Update and Windows Server 2012 R2 users is the addition of these two platforms as guest operating systems through easy install, which means that you should be able to set up virtual machines running the two platforms faster.

At the same time, OpenSuSE 13.1 is officially supported as a host operating system, while the sound card can be automatically added to a virtual machine on a Linux host at power up.

The new version of VMWare Workstation also comes with some important bug fixes for Windows 8.1 users. If you’ve set up a virtual machine running this particular platform, the guest operating system should no longer display a black screen when launching Metro style applications from the Start screen.

Plenty of other fixes are also part of the package, including improved compatibility of GL renderer with new Nvidia drivers, better graphics quality with Solidworks applications, and enhanced performance of the virtual machine using the E1000e adapter.

Using Microsoft Word and Excel in Unity mode no longer produces a beep, the developing team behind this new update explained, while the UAC dialog of the Windows 8 virtual machine no longer causes the host application windows to be blanked out on Linux Host, the release notes also state.

The application continues to provide support for all Windows versions currently on the market, including even the recently retired Windows XP that no longer receives updates and security patches from Microsoft. Support for both Windows 8.1 and 8.1 Update continues to be offered in 32- and 64-bit versions.

Overall, this update clearly comes in handy since it brings so many feature updates and improvements, so download VMware Workstation 10.0.2 Build 1744117 as soon as possible to get all of these on your computer as well.
