VMware Introduces VMware Fusion 3 for Mac OS X

VMware, Inc. has announced VMware Fusion 3, a new version of its professional-class virtualization solution for Mac OS X. Dubbed as “the Best Way to Run Windows on the Mac,” VMware Fusion 3 will be available worldwide on October 27. Interested parties can secure their copy by pre-ordering the new version as soon as today. According to its makers, VMware Fusion 3 makes it easier than ever to move to the Mac and to run Windows applications. This includes “graphics-intensive games,” Vmware says.

“For more than 10 years, VMware virtualization has given users the choice of where to run their favorite applications. We’re excited about the rapid adoption of VMware Fusion in the Mac community since its introduction just over two years ago, making it the #1 choice to run Windows on a Mac,” Jocelyn Goldfein, vice president and general manager, desktop business unit, said. “VMware Fusion 3 builds on our proven platform and makes it even easier for users to run Windows applications on the Mac.”

Revealed in a press release by the company, VMware Fusion 3 will include a whopping 50 new features and enhancements. VMware notes key highlights like Snow Leopard optimizations, a great Windows 7 experience and top-notch, 3D visuals. Speaking of each of these key refinements in part, VMware makes a few observations on its website.

“Built from the ground up for the Mac, VMware Fusion 3 leverages Mac OS X Snow Leopard’s advanced architecture with a new 64-bit core engine and native support for the 64-bit kernel, delivering even better Windows on Mac performance,” the company says. “VMware Fusion 3 will be the first to enable the full Windows 7 experience, side-by-side with your Mac, complete with Windows Aero and Flip 3D,” the company adds.

As noted above, VMware Fusion 3 is now available for pre-order via VMware’s website, Apple’s online store, as well as Amazon.com, for $79.99.
