14 DAY TRIAL // The world went mad when Nicki Minaj had a wardrobe malfunction on stage at the 2014 VMAs, at least the people who weren't away on vacation and were actually watching the award show. The controversial singer seemed to come undone right at the start of her performance.
Minaj joined Ariana Grande and Jessie J on stage to do a medley of their most popular songs and because she had to do a costume change in the middle of the performance, she came out the second time with her dress unzipped.
Fans from the audience and those watching from home secretly hoped that Nicki would accidentally reveal bits of her anatomy, but it never happened. That is why some insiders are claiming that the event was staged and Nicki's wardrobe malfunction was fake.
One person quoted by TMZ claims that Nicki's excuse that she didn't have enough time in between costume changes isn't holding any water, because she pulled the same stunt during rehearsals on Sunday morning. The person in question was there during rehearsals and claims that she walked on stage in the same dress which was again unzipped.
Nicki is said to have been manipulating her dress during the dry run, trying to see just how much she would be revealing on stage, experimenting with hand positioning.
Also, the VMA producers set up a dressing room right off stage for Nicki, particularly because of the fact that she needed to change her wardrobe quickly. It was draped with black sheets and it would have given her enough time to slip in and out of outfits without “forgetting” to zip up.
Regardless of the report, Nicki told the press after the incident, “we ran out of time to get the dress zipped up.” Clearly, that is all made up, since she could have easily zipped herself up while walking to the stage. What does that take, like half a second?
This is not the first VMA scandal to date. Last year, Miley's extremely explicit and provocative performance with Robin Thicke, which might have actually cost him his marriage, made a lot of ink flow in the media.
Only recently has it been revealed that this too was staged, including the moment when Miley fondles Robin with a giant foam finger and twerks dangerously close to him, letting it all hang out. It turns out the VMA producers are keen on keeping things scandalous, and when scandals don't naturally occur, they resort to staging events just for that extra boost in audience.
