Jesse Helt had a home to go back to, if he hadn’t been on the run from police in Oregon

At the MTV Video Music Awards 2014, Miley Cyrus chose to shine some of the spotlight that fell on her when she won Video of the Year for “Wrecking Ball” on a cause close to her heart, the issues of homelessness among youth. She did that by bringing Jesse Helt on stage to accept the award in her name.

From what she told the media after the gala, Miley managed to pull this off on her own, with the only person to know about what she was going to do, besides Jesse himself, being rapper, collaborator and rumored boyfriend Juicy J.

She said that seeing how much media attention she’d gotten in the previous year, when she twerked all over Robin Thicke and caused a huge controversy, made her understand the kind of power she had, power that she then planned to use for a good cause.

So she brought a homeless man to go up on stage and collect her Moonman (which he gets to keep), to speak about this huge social problem and, this way, set the wheels in motion for a change for the better.

However, certain details that have emerged online are distracting people at home from Miley’s new campaign because, apparently, young Jesse isn’t just a wanted man in his hometown in Oregon, but he’s also an aspiring model who had a place to call home all along.

Jesse’s mom spoke to the Daily Mail and confirmed that he left home for Los Angeles some years back, to pursue a career as a model. Things were promising at first but nothing eventually came out. However, Jesse never returned home, and continued living in LA, on the streets.

“Jesse's had ups and downs like anybody else... he didn't wanna give up and run on home to mommy, but only he knows the reasons, that's for him to say,” his mother says. “He wanted to be in Los Angeles and he had opportunities and he took them, but you know, he's had his ups and downs like anybody else.”

She doesn’t hide the fact that Jesse always had a home to come back to, if he had wanted to.

“It was his choice, he was always welcome, he could always come back any time. If he needed help, I'd help him, we help one another,” she explains.

Now that Miley is in Jesse’s life, his mother is convinced that great things will happen to him. “Somebody's helping him and he wants to help someone too. Miley has taken Jesse to her heart and I’m really glad for Jesse. It's time for him to have some good luck. He needs to be blessed,” she says.

She also reveals for the Mail that he’s expecting him to come home, after he called her to say that Miley had bought him a plane ticket so he could see his family. Once he lands, he will also have to turn himself in to the police, because there’s an arrest warrant in his name for violation of parole, stemming from an arrest on criminal trespassing.
