Star uses her big moment to raise awareness, gets back into the good graces of the public

Miley Cyrus has crawled her way back into the hearts of even some of her biggest haters with her amazing gesture at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards 2014. She won the biggest award of the night after the honorary Michael Jackson Vanguard Award, and she used her moment in the spotlight to bring attention to a good cause.

She did that, as you can see in the video below, by having a young homeless man walk up on stage to accept the award for her, on behalf of all the homeless youths in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, Miley sat on the side of the stage, crying her eyes out and unable to control her emotions. Truth be told now, the moment was a very powerful one.

“All over this city I’ve cleaned your hotel rooms. I’ve been an extra in your movies. I’ve been an extra in life,” the young man said.

“Though I may have been invisible to you on the streets, I have a lot of the same dreams that brought you here tonight. Los Angeles, entertainment capitol, has the largest percentage of homeless youth in America. The music industry will make over $7 billion [€5.3 billion] this year and outside these doors are 54,000 who have no place to call home,” he continued.

He also revealed that Miley would be involved in a new charity campaign. “If you want to make a powerful change in the world right now, please join us by going to Miley‘s Facebook page. A dream you dream alone is only a dream, but a dream you dream together is reality,” the man added.

Miley Cyrus has come a very long way from her Disney / Hannah Montana days, and depending on who you ask, the change wasn’t necessarily for the better because, these days, she seems determined to shock and gross people out no matter out.

Whether this was just a publicity stunt to get her back into the good graces of the public or not (though many believe that this is exactly what it was), the important part we should remember is that Miley is willing to use her star power to do something good.

If more celebrities did the same and used their fame to bring awareness to a variety of problems we’re facing, undoubtedly, we’d be much better off than we are today.
