What would an MTV awards show be like without Kanye?

It’s been 5 years since Kanye West’s infamous interruption of Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 edition of the MTV Video Music Awards, but the world is yet to let him off the hook on this one. Because no VMAs awards gala is even worthy of talking about if Kanye isn’t there, MTV “brought” him up on stage at last night’s edition as well.

Because the world must never forget how great Kanye West is and because he’s been on a break from touring, which means we haven’t gotten any more on-stage rants from him in a while, comedian Jay Pharoah did his best version of Kanye at the VMAs 2014, which took place live at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

Of course, with Kanye’s wife Kim Kardashian being in the audience, MTV made sure the camera zoomed in on her at least a couple of times in hopes of getting a “good” reaction shot, preferably something scandalous. In this regard, Kim disappointed because she pretended to enjoy all the jokes, but is it me or that’s not her real laughter we’re seeing?

“Kanye” introduced the nominees for the Artist to Watch category, and before urging fans at home to go online to vote for a winner, he made sure he drove his message home: nominees, schonominees, they should vote for him even if he wasn’t included. Because he’s the only “artist to watch.”

As funny as this skit is, you probably know it’s true, that this is exactly how Kanye sees himself. How else could he call himself Yeezus and proclaim himself a “god” while keeping a straight face?
