This is why the Television Consumer Freedom Act is necessary, group says

That didn’t take long: Miley Cyrusshameless and tasteless performance at the MTV Video Music Awards 2013 has managed to get the PTC (Parents Television Council) all hot under the collar.

Granted, it doesn’t take much for the PTC to get upset but, this time, voices online are saying, they actually make a very strong point.

PTC director of public policy Dan Isett tells The Wrap in a statement that MTV “falsely rat[ed] this program as appropriate for kids as young as 14. This is unacceptable.”

He also argues that Miley and Lady Gaga’s performances were in no way suitable for the younger audiences to which MTV caters.

“This much is absolutely clear: MTV marketed adults-only material to children while falsely manipulating the content rating to make parents think the content was safe for their children,” he says.

Moreover, they were enough proof that the Television Consumer Freedom Act is absolutely necessary at this point, because it would allow parents the freedom to choose which program they want to have.

And they would certainly not choose MTV after Miley’s stunt, the PTC believes.
