At the MTV Video Music Awards 2013, airing live from NYC last weekend, Miley Cyrus didn’t just annoy and offend audiences by grinding on Robin Thicke, being pitchy and trying to twerk, but also by using a giant foam finger in ways it was never supposed to be used.

Steve Chmelar, the creator of the foam finger, is understandably not happy about all this.

He came up with the idea for it many years ago, as something that would help him show his support for his local team. Until just now, he was proud of the wide popularity of the foam finger.

“I would say that it certainly misrepresented its intent to encourage team support. She took an honorable icon that is seen in sporting venues everywhere and degraded it,” he tells Fox.

Still, he has faith in that the foam finger will recover from this nasty blow its image took by being associated with the raunchy Miley.

“Fortunately, the foam finger has been around long enough that it will survive this incident. As for Miley Cyrus, let's hope she can outlive this event and also survive,” Chmelar says.

Also on the topic, a charity organization has also trashed Miley for using teddy bears in her performance and thus ruining a childhood icon.

I’d also blame her for ruining twerking, and I’m waiting to hear from a twerking organization on the topic.
