After the MTV Video Music Awards 2013, which aired live on Sunday from New York, MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski was among the first to voice their outrage concerning Miley Cyrus’ performance. Hours ago, she and Matt Lauer got into the topic again.
Brzezinski was a guest on The Professionals and, as the video below will confirm, she called for heads to roll at MTV. She also criticized Miley and her management some more for a performance she says was, no matter how you look at it, disgusting and pathetic.
“[It’s] disgusting and disturbing and seeing... a 20 year old young woman literally in the process of her undoing and everyone clapping for it and being disturbed by it and talking about it and showing it, which I hope we don't. Don't show it here on my segment, please,” she said, arguing that the performance wasn’t “pushing the envelope.”
It was more like adult entertainment being passed for pop music.
Lauer disagreed and sided with Star Jones, who argued that this type of behavior like Miley displayed during the performance is something that pop stars “have” to do if they wish to remain relevant.
“I think the only thing that surprises me is that we're surprised,” he said, adding that Miley was a “paid performer” asked to be a part of the year’s “most provocative awards show,” with a duet on a very “provocative” song.
